When buying a mobility scooter or powerchair, it’s common to hear about warranty and insurance. While both provide protection, they cover very different things. Here’s a simple guide to help you understand the difference and make sure you’re fully protected.
A warranty is provided by the manufacturer (or us as the retailer) and covers faults with the scooter that are not your fault.
Warranty covers:
Defective parts (e.g. motor, controller, charger)
Manufacturing faults
Warranty does not cover:
Accidental damage (e.g. broken parts from hitting a curb or wall)
Theft or loss
Wear and tear (e.g. tyres, batteries after normal use)
Misuse of the scooter
✅ Think of it as protection against something that goes wrong because of the scooter itself.
Insurance is an optional policy you purchase (like car insurance) to protect you against unexpected events.
Insurance covers (depending on policy):
Accidental damage (e.g. broken parts from hitting a curb or wall)
Theft or vandalism
Third-party liability (if you hit someone or something)
Personal accident cover (some policies include this)
❌ Insurance does not usually cover manufacturing faults — that’s what the warranty is for.
Some insurance policies allow you to add Breakdown Recovery, giving you peace of mind that if your scooter stops working while you’re out, you can get help getting home safely.
